The Dakota drying stage project is in progress in the gardens. The project began during the summer of 2009 with an application for the Marjorie Bolz Allen Volunteer Grant by Cheyenne Haskell, Shericka Maxwell and Intern Jennifer Weber. The grant was awarded in August and gathering of the materials began. The poles, crossbeams and spits were harvested from the Lower Sioux Community in Southwestern Minnesota where the idea for the project originated. Special thanks to Pam Halverson and the staff from the Lower Sioux Agency Interpretive Center for their assistance and support of this project.
The project and research was continued this year. The Dakota Drying Stage was constructed on June 17th by Scott Shoemaker, Jennifer Weber, Marcus Harmon, Ashleigh Shohn and Cheyenne Livingston. Check back throughout the summer to see how the drying rack is being used in the gardens.
